WHY AM I DOING THIS?

While I am  the VP of Operations and Sales and Co-Owner for Web Unlimited, I am also the President of the Rotary Club of Aggieland. I am wholeheartedly behind what Rotary International represents and does for our communities and our world. To see some of the Rotary Club of Aggieland's projects, read below.

Thai-ing Us Together
In 2005, Chuck Murry, a member of the Rotary Club of Aggieland, brought a heart-wrenching story about how girls and boys were being stolen from Vietnam and Thailand and then sold on the black market in Thailand for the sex trade. He asked the Club for funds to send to an orphanage named the Redemptorist Street Kids Home that he had been working with to eradicate child prostitution in a Thai city called Pattaya.

Chuck's story of how the child in the picture to the left had never had an apple before in her life until he brought apples to the orphanage touched the Club in a profound way. He explained how as little money as $1,000 could help feed the entire orphanage for an entire year. In 2006, the Rotary Club of Aggieland sent $2,000 to the Redemptorist Street Kids Home and sent $3,000 with another $2,000 in matching funds from Rotary International District 5910 for a total of $5,000 for 2007-2008. In 2008-2009 we sent a total of $5,000 and hope to dramatically increase that in the upcoming 2009-2010 year.

Aggieland Rotary Thanksgiving Baskets

Service Above Self

The Thanksgiving Baskets project began small at first, but it has grown substantially over the past years as the club has increased its ability to identify needy families, to raise funds to purchase food, and to muster the volunteer workforce necessary to carry out a project of this magnitude. In 2008, the club delivered 175 complete Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets to less fortunate fellow citizens in the Brazos Valley. The Thanksgiving Baskets Project just illustrates one of the ways that the Rotary Club of Aggieland is living up to the Rotary International Motto of “Service Above Self”.
